DT175 mx 1978 Kick start spacer was created by MikeK-uk

Good morning :-)
I am missing the spacer that goes between the kick start lever and then washer plate / seal.
They seem to be unobtainable here in uk, so was going to get one made.
Does anyone have one that they could measure… i’m
interested to know its width/depth.
As always, thank you.

So #18. Not even sure why that's necessary as any end trust would be taken up internaly i'm thinking. Maybe just to make it look pretty if there's a lot of exposed shaft.

Here's one eBay item number:404720587627 looks alloy in the pic.
I have no luck linking ebay direct on here. Or just google the part number with yamaha in front of it which is how i found it.

RT325, I'm pretty sure Yamaha deleted the external spacer on the later models...  yet, kick shaft and cover are the same from 78-81..  so I'm guessing you're correct and it was "cosmetic".

Thanks Mark.
It looks alloy in the ebay pic but is it an original genuine part --says it is.
Just cut a piece of plastic tube to fill the gap to the washer if it's not serving a serious purpose.
Or do nothing & leave the washer off rather than floating.
Washer & spacer might've been to protect the seal.
Too modern for me lol.

It’s in the parts list for my 2k4. Saw the one on US ebay but quite pricey with shipping to uk for something of seemingly arguable value.
The kick start shaft is supported by a blind
hole at one end and the seal at other end. I wondered whether the washer plate and spacer was intended to reduce wobble of the shaft and wear/damage to the seal when kicking it over. Although I have noticed that the meshing gears seem to stabilise the shaft somewhat when kicking it over.
Don’t know… just speculating.

Won't be supported by the seal.
The case will be machined to running clearance on the shaft so probably supported for about 10mm length hole in the case behind the seal so don't worry about that.
Looks like there's an alloy or plastic spacer that located onto the spring but does your distancing or thrusting of the endfloat of the shaft "16

Running clearance hole in case… hadn’t seen / thought about that. Makes sense as it didn’t seem a good idea to have the kick start end of shaft unsupported.

Spacer fitted only to 78 and 79 models of D175MX and some earlier model DTs.

It is there presumably to offer an upper stop for the brake pedal and prevent wear to the kickstart shaft from the pedal. The washer presumably is there to protect the seal from the spacer.

That sounds logical. The desire for the spacer has waned somewhat now I better understand what it is for. Think my $20/30/40 can be better spent elsewhere!
Thank you.
