snap ring issues was created by Tdbecker58

I have a 1972 at2 MX and am facing issues with with the outermost snap ring on the kick starter shaft coming off.  I have replaced the snap ring M14 with a new one.  I can kick it for a few times, then it seem to slip off again. Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this?

Thank you for any ideas.

Did you use an oe snap ring for it? Snap ring will have a rounded side and a flat side. On that application I would put the flat side towards the seal. Check the groove in the shaft and make sure there is no taper in it. Yamaha had an upgrade on the kicker gear and shaft, but I am not sure of the cutoff on the serial numbers for it.

Thank you. I used a snap ring from a kit I had, non oem. I still have the original and I will make sure the flat side is toward the seal. That might have been the mistake from the person who worked on it before I bought the bike. Thanks again
