Color code of golden rims was created by spitzo

Hi everyone! Mats from Sweden here!

I recently got myself a lovely xt250 3y3 1981 which i´m restoring to perfection, and i´ve stumbled across a particularly difficult challenge, which is figuring out the correct color code for the original golden rims, i´ve searched everywhere and can´t seem to find it..

Welcome!

Interesting.  I wasn't aware they had gold rims that early...  all of the gold rims I've seen have been anodized aluminum and color can vary slightly from batch to batch.

Thanks for you reply!
I talked to a Yamaha dealer today here locally and he thought the same thing, that it's anodized.. So I'm thinking about taking the wheel rim to a paint dealer or match it to a good grade spray paint.

If you're doing a full restoration, why not just have the rims anodized again?

There’s a company in my area that does anodizing. I was looking for someone to rechrome and came across them. I can locate the info if you’re interested.

I have experience with this subject and would say if tou have any corrosion on the inside of the rim be very careful having them re anodised . The cleaning process can lead to delamination of the aluminium .Ask how I know. I would look at some of the current EU line up and from over the past six years and you might come across something you could use . I eventually had mine coated but mine were on my TDR 250.
if they're good then get them dipped to get them back to bare aluminium, get them polished then anodised. There were two colours one translucent so that's where the polishing comes in. Good luck .
