Hi all,I have decided to put my 1983 Yamaha YZ 490 for sale since I need some money to get the IT490 squared away/get fixed. I'm 22 years old and certainly don't need 4 bikes but I think 3 is what I can handle.The YZ 490 is all original but a little rusty in some spots including the pipe. I was told this was raced in the district 37 desert race here in California. Thats all the history I know from what the previous owner told me. It currently doesn't run but has lots of compression and spark. The tank is a reproduction. I did notice that the Kickstarter doesn't re-coil back up once kicked down. I will include a new spring with the sale. Rims are cracked but will include an original set of rims with no damage and has brand new Maxxis desert IT tires already installed. I have lots of parts that will go with the sale and probably have $400 worth of parts.

I used to have a YZ490, it was white, ‘87 I think. If I 40yrs younger I’d buy it in hot second. 

Sold mine same exact model & color a few years ago. Bit of an arm stretcher it was. I bought a 5 speed for it off ebay advertised as a yz465 box so though nice evenly spaced ratios. Turned out to be an IT465 box with an annoying step in ratio between 3rd & 4th. Fitted it & lived with it. My original 4 speed chewed up one of the gears. Ate the teeth right off. Must've bee hungry that day--me not impressed--big strong 4 speed should last forever.
