Well that's how I just installed them. I might try and fire this one up tomorrow. I probably won't paint until the weather breaks. My attached garage is heated, but when I paint the fumes overtake the house for a while. I'd rather wait till the temps get up where I can paint with the windows and doors cracked for ventilation. Tomorrow I will finish assembling the other JT.

The first one fired right up, but it was idling way too high and the idle screw made no difference, so I need to sort that out. Got the engine in the other one, and it is not getting any spark......

That will be on the top of my list next weekend. I scuffed my paint for the engine mounts and the coil mounts. Hope I just need to lightly sand the points.

Lightly sanded the points and got it fired up.

It's a shame how many JTs have had their exhaust tips cut short. Thankfully I have one that was not cut, so I can use it to pattern my extensions for the other two. It appears that someone even cut the larger tube that goes into the exhaust pipe. I'm not going to worry about that end of the insert. I just want the outlet to be extended similar to the original exhaust tip which keeps the spooge off the bike. I will take all the bits to my sons house and have him do the welding.

There's a whole bunch of factory Yamaha "speed tips" (or low speed putting around tips for new riders) for porting, etc for the JT's...

I think it might be in the Tech Library... It's a Yamaha tuning tips manual that covers many early models.

apex, I couldn't agree more! So far every one of my refurbished bikes still carry the original paint on the gas tank. Maybe I will continue that pattern and leave the yellow tank as is. The other JT will require a painted tank simply because the previous owner already painted it, and filled in the badge mounts. So I am thinking about painting that one to mimic the tank graphics from 1975 since most of my collection is from that year. I will have the only 1975 JT60.
