Cylinder Flex Hone Grit for 1968 YG5T was created by amsbstn

Hi.. I overheated my YG5T last season and am finally getting around to putting in a new piston and rings.  The cylinder has some minor pitting due to water damage, but was running okay before the overheat.  As it's a cast iron cylinder with new chrome (OEM) rings, I was wondering if there were any recommendations for a flex-hone grit?  The options that seem most reasonable are 180 or 240.  If I was running bare cast rings, I'd probably go with 180 given the cylinder pitting.  But with chrome, maybe 240 would be better?

Any input would be great.  Thanks!

Yamaha made both chrome and cast iron rings for the same models just FYI.

I doubt it would make much difference which of those two grits you used.

Thanks! Yeah, I doubt it really matters. I think I'm going to go 240. I believe for the YG5 (Street), the bike came with a top chrome and a bottom cast. For the YG5T, I think both top and bottom were chromed. I can't imagine this ring difference would matter anyway on such a small bike. At ~6HP It's not much of a performance machine!

What I was trying to say is sometimes Yamaha offered non-chrome rings as an "option" when buying replacement rings...  they had two part numbers for many models.  So while original rings could have been chrome, you could get plain iron rings for some models if you wanted them
