1973-78 XL175 Kickstart Spline wanted.. was created by KennyandtheJets
Setting up a74 XL175 for a friend/girl .. Talked her out of a DRZ that she was going to buy and thought a good starting bike would be a vintage honda.. Light , quiet and a bag of fun..
Bike is amazing , low miles , and has been stored since the 70`s.. Only issue is the kickstart splines are damaged and cant find a new kickstart spindle/shaft anywhere...
I am currently going through the bike mechanically and wish to hand over a solid machine fit for a newbie.. Any fellow vintage dirt brethren out there have this part kicking around in their shed or on a parts bike in the back paddock ?
Thanks for reading and any help..

As good as an XL175 would be [or was] something electric start might be good for her. Cheating a bit i know but just thinking easier for her. But, being honda the shaft will be a total rebuild to get at. Hope i'm wrong.

She can kick over a 250 two stroke no problem and she just wants to ride fire trails so should be ok on a kickstart..
Some more research and yes its a total case split job...urrrrggggghhhh
More so this was an inherent design problem with this model. The offset on the kickstarter is so far to the right that enormous amounts of leverage force are place on the end of the spline shaft...bending and breaking of the end being the end result. Replacements are like hens teeth and require a total rebuild... Steer clear of this model or remove the kickstarter and inspect the shaft before purchase.
Should have got her a Yamaha!

or maybe an xl200 xr200 with a working valve lifter/decompressor to take the load off the shaft. Sounds like the 175 didn't have a valve lifter but would be good if a rocker box of a 185/200 later motor would fit with decomp, but doubt it's the same.
