Hodaka-Powered Minibike was created by Tom S.
After many decades of owning and riding motorcycles and other two-wheelers, I purchased my first Hodaka product last winter. Back in the day, a friend's big brother raced an Ace 100, and my uncle had a Super Rat that he let me ride a few times.
My bike is an SMS Products Trailmaster 80 minibike. It's powered by an 80cc Hodaka w/3-speed transmission. I bought it from a friend in Astoria, Ore., which is where it was manufactured in around 1964 - '65. I'm excited to learn more about it and about Hodakas generally.
This bike's engine turns over freely. It makes compression and a fat spark and shifts through all of the gears. I have no immediate plans to restore it. I will probably try to get it running before long. But as with so many other bikes that I bring home, it will need to wait patiently for awhile longer as I attend to older projects. It's in line behind my '78 Yamaha DT400. Things move slowly in my garage.
Here are a couple of photos of my bike, a copy of a magazine ad and a photo of a restored example that I found online.

That thing has serious engine setback! A friend in grade school was top of the heap for awhile w/his
brand new ACE 90 powered Bonanza mini bike. I had a Bonanza as well w/3hp Briggs that blew up after a long day of (governer bypassed) racing a Taco (no jackshaft) that led into moms purchase of 5hp briggs ( had to modify seat height for plug clearence) I told her was correct motor, heh heh. Then the ACE 90 appeared so in want a Mac 10! My dad realizing I had gone crazy as it was scary fast for what 8" tires? it did at least 50 mph, so we made a deal for my first bike, brand new AT 1 in '69!

Simple Tom is a regular on the OldMiniBikes.com forum, as am I.

I sold the Trail Master a few months ago to a Hodaka enthusiast who searched me out. I let it go for the amount of my investment. He seemed much more enthused to restore it than I was.
