Original paint codes and names are pretty useless.  Code was "34" and Yamaha called it "Candy Purple" and then "Metallic Purple".

Did you etch prime under this or does it just go straight on because it is engine enamel?

I know this is the Yamaha Enduro forum, but I thought maybe some could help me with codes or brands for a 1977 Yamaha TY250 which is a trials bike. I'll attach a picture I got online and a picture of what mine looks like. Thanks.

Okay I see that at this time uploading photos can't be done. Maybe later.

Hey Lavern...
yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/workshop/wiki/127-1977-ty250d

The tech library has a model listing entry for your 77 TY250.

There is also a section in the forum for the TY models.

Badger52,
Many thanks for the links. The first link did provide a paint color, Windy Blue, but no actual paint code.   On the second link I found a start of a thread, "TY 250A paint code",  but no one has answered and the 1977 TY250  is a is a D series. Thank you for the links. Perhaps if I mention "Windy Blue" when the time comes, someone may be able to decipher that. If all else fails, with todays technology, I believe my tank and side panels are good enough to get a good color mix.  Thanks for reading and responding to my post.

LaVern,

The problem with decades old "paint codes" is they are completely meaningless these days for the most part.

That said, this forum has a lot of resources and it's possible a specialty paint company makes the color you are looking for.

First step in looking up your bike in the Tech Library literature...  specifically there is a "Model Index" that sometimes shows paint colors.... mostly for later models though.

Unfortunately, the 1977 493 series (0200101 to 0300000) does not have paint code listed.

There is also a "Yamaha ID numbers" list that shows the TY250D (493-200101 to 201551) paint color as "Windy Blue" which corresponds to what you found already.

Not done yet.  The "Model Index" doc also has a "Color Name" section.  Windy Blue has the abbreviation "WB" with a code of "00J4".

Searching the "Model Index" doc for the "WB" abbreviation unfortunately does not come up with any (hopefully newer) models that used that same paint.  Sometimes you get lucky and find a newer model that the paint companies list a paint match for.

Didn't help much but maybe a good paint store or Yamaha can do something with the 00J4 paint code.

Finished up the tanks today, that 2K clear is awesome stuff!  I'll wait a few days then cut and buff.

EDIT:  I guess I should have added the color I used, it's ford's Screaming Yellow D6.

Thanks Wes, thought about using the spray max on the cases but don't want it to be too shiny, I know you can get semi gloss but might just as well save the money and use the PJ1.
