New to the site. was created by scareymuzz

Gday my name is Murray and I am from Australia.
I have what I believe is a 1972 CT2 - Brilliant Red.
I have no spark.
Wishing to start at the beginning and check the ignition source coil but cant find what the resistance value should be.
With the points open it is 4.8ohms and with the points closed is 1.2 ohms.
Any help is appreciated. I am a fitter and electrics do my head in .
Cheers

Clean the point contacts.

Should be getting a solid ground, zero resistance with points closed.

What kind of meter are you using? ... digital meters sometimes make getting a good reading difficult.

As Mark says, start off by cleaning the points.

If you have some indian doctors for your pitches you could be right.
I have replaced the plugs but they are a B7ES not a B8 ,dont know if that makes a difference.
Have replaced the ignition coil as the original had a damaged lead to the plug, ebay , after market ?
Have cleaned and reset the the points to 12thou.
Kick kit. nothing.

Welcome from NZ.
You can bypass the loom & switches by running the stator loom "black" straight to the coil. Just be sure the throttle is shutting down & have an escape route planned.
Tie a string around the plug cap or coil black stator wire.
Hope she fires up by lunch time. I'll go find the resistance.

If you don't have zero resistance with points closed, the point contacts are not making a good connection or you have an unreliable meter... can you touch both meter leads to the aluminum case and get a solid zero on the meter?

With one probe connected to points wire and the other to ground, you should have that same solid zero reading with points closed. If you don't, you're chasing your tail until you figure that out. Points open the reading is normally between 1 and 2 ohms. But again, you need to use a good meter. Old fashioned "analog" (swinging needle) meters with a "Rx1" scale (very important, must have Rx1 scale) work good for this... many digital meters don't.

My official original workshop sheet says 2.1 resistance for the source [black] for a CT3.
CT2 page they miss out those details--but will be the same mag.
CT1 was different & heavier flywheel--maybe same resistance all the same.
To test that [i'm thinking?]. You'd need to put ya credit card [anything non conductive] in the points & lift the condenser away from earth to get a true reading [correct me?].
But for testing points contacting--or not--think MarkT mentioned that job.
Good it's on the bench & easy to do, clean points etc or check they're contacting.

I have a " 482 " model parts list , which was sent to me by mistake , and is surplus to requirements .
I live in New Zealand though . If you're interested in it , then message me about it .
