1978 Dt178E magneto cover air vent connection? #1
Hi Folks,

After recently finishing the restoration of the dt175e I noticed there is an air vent on the magneto case cover which has a little barb connector on the top. I couldn't see any reference to this in the Clymer manual or on partzilla schematics. Anybody know where this is supposed to connect too?

It's an air vent as you said. Doesn't connect to anything. Should have a short length of breather hose connected.

If you have a 175, it's "technically" the wrong cover. Only the 125 with points had the vent hose. Look up the 1978 DT125E parts list and you'll see the hose.

www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcy...125e/crankcase-cover

Vent is needed for points to prevent build-up of ozone which can cause a misfire. Not required for CDI.

I had this question as well. My '74 DT360 has the vent hose also (with broken fitting), so maybe wrong cover was installed at some point.

1974 DT360A does have the breather + hose. However, take care, as the current part number supersessions are not the same items as the originals.

Thanks folks,

Yep, a cover from a different bike, that would explain it. I had to purchase an ebay replacement as I couldn't find the original. Looks like it was from a 125 even though it said it was for a 175. No big deal. Good to know though.
