Speedo fix? was created by Mike87

So, got the '79 DT175 running well. One issue still to be addressed is the non working speedo. The cable turns as the odometer does work but the speedo does not. I suspect that there is a gear or something broken inside. Problem is getting inside the plastic speedo housing. How is it done? And are there speedo gears available to fix it?

Or is the best course of action to source a NOS or used speedo?

Thanks both of you. I sent a message to DEET but have not heard back yet. Will wait and see.

Thanks again,
Mike

In general, I don't work on the plastic housing instruments.
They are not made to be opened.
There are some XS ones that I have done successfully, but most can't be done without destroying the plastic. There are no repair parts available.
I recommend finding another complete instrument.

Thanks for the response. That is what I assumed but since the first two responders asked me to contact you, I did in the hopes that it would work out. Now I am in search of a replacement speedo or just live without it. Not sure yet.

Thanks again,
Mike
