Gosh, Welcome, but sounds like you have a few issues to sort. Pics of the offending parts would be great when you can. Sounds like possibly to do with the kick start gears & possibly the bearing in the case behind the kick intermediate gear--idler gear call it. Then again if by 'rocks' you 'mean' rocks, small stones, i wonder if its been sabotaged by putting stuff in the oil filler hole. Hope not. Gonna be interesting. Goodnight from NZ down under. Well, 1.50AM damn it, this site is too addictive haha. Lucky i'm retired. Cut my teeth on these old girls back in the day working in the local Yamy shop. Still learning though.

Wow.

First, welcome!

Second, HOLY ROCKS batman! I have no idea why or how those rocks got in there, I've never seen anything like that.

Splitting cases is not that difficult, but can be intimidating the first time. Look in the Tech Section here for factory service manual, and various threads about rebuilds. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Welcome!
As Fred Flintstone would say that looks like Barney Rubble.
Amazing! Good luck with the restoration.

Pretty obvious now how they got in there....confirms my original thought...sabotage in through the oil fill hole.

Wow. I wonder--previous owner went to lunch halfway through an oil change. Child come along, sees a hole & tips all his rocks out of the fish tank in there. Owner comes out unaware & pours oil in then carries on riding. Be good if you could confidently wash it out without having to dismantle any further.
